Celebrate our freedom to read by picking up a banned book!

Did you know that people actually challenge and even ban books in the United States? Crazy, huh!?! I mean, the 1st Amendment of the Constitution talks about free speech and a free press. Can't we read what the press prints if we choose to do so? Why should one person be able to tell others what they can and can't read?

Join us to protest the banning of books AND to celebrate our freedom to read at our "Banned Books Read Outs" on Tuesday, September 25 from 4-4:30pm and Thursday, September 27 from 4-4:30pm in the Teen Room. We'll literally read aloud from books that have been challenged or banned. Snacks will be served.

As a frequent patron, an editor, and an American, I was delighted to witness one of the "Banned Books Read Outs" the other day. Jesse was reading Salinger outside.

Great stuff. Thanks.
